Day at the Beach [DATB] & Wounded Warrior DATB

After completing this topic, we hope you feel competent in our volunteer job descriptions, roles, and responsibilities for our DATB events.

What is Day at the Beach [DATB] & Wounded Warrior DATB?

DATB is our free monthly program for our kama’aina and visitors of all ages and abilities. Our trained volunteers provide adaptive surfing, flotation, and swimming for any person with a disability on the first Saturday of each month at White Plains Beach Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wounded Warrior DATB is open to active duty and veteran service men and women who are injured, wounded, or battling illness, and to their families. Our trained volunteers help participants learn to surf on the third Wednesday of each month at White Plains Beach Park from 10:00 – 13:00.

There are a few exceptions throughout the year for both DATB events. Please check our events calendar for any date and location changes. There are many opportunities to volunteer! Below lists detailed job descriptions you can choose based on your comfort level in and out of water.

Volunteer Positions

You don’t need to be a surfer to help someone experience a great Day at the Beach! We have lots of volunteer opportunities both on land and in the water – from water safety to food preparation, assisted swimming to wheelchair transfers, and much more. Read about the opportunities below!

Goal of DATB

Our goal is to provide access to beach activities and to create opportunities for inclusion for people of all abilities. Whether you’re going to surf, enjoy a swim, or soak up the sun while cruising on the beach, we want you to enjoy the happiness and freedom that Day at the Beach creates!
